Sunday's pictures - What is a hat?

  1. EXTRAORDINARY! Wow.

The ladies could easily be a Gauguin painting, and the gentlemen could be a Cezanne. Love this. Now, please, the story.

  2. These are some of the photos that I took of people wearing traditional costumes at the Grape Harvest Festival in Nimes. The hats were beautiful - I kept wondering how they managed to iron them to such crisp perfection. Starch, perhaps?

Since I forgot the battery of my camera in my suitcase, I couldn't take any pictures while I was in Boston yesterday so I had to use some from France.

  3. According to Wikipedia:

"a head covering used for several reasons. It can be worn for protection against the elements, for ceremonial or religious reasons, for safety, or as a fashion accessory."

    - How would you categorize the white hats?

  4. Sara, Really?! You decided to use Wikipedia as your source? ;-) But thanks for defining hats and for helping me select the photos for today's post. I still feel bad about cropping the rest of the family out of the photo of the little boy and his father, but you're right in a rather ruthless way that it looks better.

And to answer your question, I'm going to categorize the white hats, the boy's beret and the man's hat as fashion accessories.
