Sunday's Picture and a Song - Boston and Charlie on the MTA
When our children were small and trying to figure out the concept of "home", we told them that it's wherever the four of us are together. So, Boston is also home for me. It feels so good to be here!

Wow, A postcard worthy photo of the Charles! I also love the song! It was originally the campaign song of a mayor candidate whose platform included lower subway fares. Although he finished last in the mayoral race, his legacy lives on. Boston's subway card ("Charlie Card") is named after the Charlie who never returned from the MTA.

ReplyDeleteOh my goodness Mary Kay, I am a Bostonian and LOVE to see your photos and blog from here. Living in Florida for just over a decade, your photos made me long for a trip home....enjoy and have fun. Wish I were ther...should be in late Sept for the foliage!

Nancy, Boston is a great city, although after having been here during a heavy snowstorm last January that shut everything down and kept me inside for a couple of days, I can also understand how you might prefer the warmth of Florida, particularly during the winter months! Please let me know if there's something that I should do in Boston. If not for this trip then for the next one because I'm a frequent visitor.

I would have suggested "the Cape" but I see you are there. (I grew up in Quincy and attended BU a LONG time ago!)Newport RI is just a bit further south and has wonderful mansions...but certainly no Versailles! If you have a chance, Mrs Jack Gardner's Palace is a great museum in Boston near Northeastern Univ. and has (or had) chamber music concerts in it's courtyard. Quincy Marketplace, the shops along Newbury Street, the Museum of Fine Arts (again, not the Louvre, but nice collections) just north of Boston is Glouchester where you can go on a whale watch cruise..and Rockport is near there..typically quaint NE seaside town... Ohhhh, I miss Boston, snowstorms and all!

ReplyDeleteNancy, It's funny that you mentioned the Red Sox - I'm back in Boston and was thinking that I would really like to go to one of their games. It's hard to walk anywhere in Boston without seeing Red Sox gear. There's also a lot of Bruin gear after their recent NHL win. Both of my kids had a lot of fun at the celebatory parade. And speaking of kids, my son is a very happy student at BU.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely refer to your list of places to go the next time that I'm in Boston. Even though there will be a few more posts about things that I've done here, I'm driving to Annapolis today.
