Sunday's picture and a song - Red, red wine...

It looks like it's going to be a good year for red wine!
Small vineyard outside of Geneva

The grapes are plump and juicy. Soon they'll be harvested and villages will celebrate with festivals offering traditional food and vin nouveau, new wine that is only slightly fermented.

Even though Switzerland doesn't export much of their wine because the Swiss prefer to keep it for themselves, I love a crisp white wine from the vineyards around Vevey with fondue and other cheese dishes. My favorite pre-dinner drink during the summer is a glass of prosecco. But nothing beats a glass of good red wine like the one that I had last night.

Red or white? French, Italian, South African, Chilean, Australian or American - what's your favorite wine?

  1. I tend to prefer French wine, especially Champagne. (No surprise there, I'm sure.) But any country can produce a good wine, and each wine is a lesson to learn, a journey to take, a moment to enjoy--so bring 'em on!

  2. Joseph, After reading your post on champagne, I'm not the least bit surprised that it's your beverage of choice. If I hadn't been so pleased with the local wine in Corfu last year, I would have questioned your comment that any country can produce good wine. Who would have thought that such a climate would produce such drinkable wine. Or maybe I was just really thirsty...

  3. Joseph,

After posting my comment, I was thinking about you (the romantic) and wondering if you've ever seen the movie, "French Kiss" with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline.

It's a little known movie but one of my favorites about France. Love and wine - an unbeatable combination.
