Sunday's picture and a song - Catherine Deneuve, Café de Flore and Finding Noon

Ever since my friend, Finding Noon, sent a text message suggesting that I go to the Café de Flore after a wintry walk in the Luxembourg Gardens last January, I've been hooked. It's the kind of spot where if you hang around long enough somebody interesting will walk through the door, perhaps even Catherine Deneuve.

Do you like people watching in Paris? Then join Finding Noon for her weekly "Friday at Flore" series, where she features photos of tourists, chic Parisiennes and the international jetset. In between Friday afternoons at Café de Flore, Finding Noon writes about the latest art exhibitions, hot restaurants, trendy boutiques and life with Mr. French, bien sûr! With a little black book stuffed full of the best addresses, she's my "go-to-girl" for any and all questions about Paris and Parisians.

Many thanks to Joseph for supplying me with the perfect song for today's post.  I'm fairly sure that the café scenes were shot at Café de Flore. After passing many delightful afternoons there with Finding Noon, I think that I recognize the table and chairs.

[Edit] Please be forewarned, there is some nudity in the video. My apologies if the sultriness of it surprised/shocked anyone, including Joseph and Mlle Ella (see comment section), on a Sunday. The champagne must have affected my judgement!

  1. When I saw that photo on instagram I figured you were with Finding Noon! I'm so excited to see the photos she posts each week. And as a side note, Sir L and I went to Semilla last night per her blog reco and it was wonderful. Great food and great service!

    1. I wish that you would have joined us at Cafe de Flores on Friday afternoon - then there would have been 3 champagne flutes in the instagram photo!! We even managed to get a bit of work done in between all of the people watching.

Finding Noon always has great restaurant recommendations. If she says it good - it's good! Stephane and I still have to try Semilla.

    1. Sultry indeed! Whoa MK!

Seb and I are getting a good chuckle out of the clip right now. Especially when the dude starts singing "Oh Babe!"

We needed a good laugh. Thanks!!

      Happy Sunday!

    2. Sultry?! Thanks to your comments I decided to add a disclaimer above the video so that it doesn't surprise anyone.

My apologies, Mlle Ella, if the video shocked your sensibilities. I know how delicate you are! ;) I'm happy that it brightened Seb's and your Sunday!

Joseph, thanks again for telling me about the video - sultry or not, I like it and listened to it over and over again this morning. It has really grown on me. Plus, I love the shots of the Eiffel Tower and Trocadero.

    3. Gosh, I hated that song! Sorry! At least there were flashes of mild nudity and Catherine Deneuve to make up for it ha ha

  5. Love this! We had an equally brilliant experience today at the Pure Café in the 11e... A really old-fashioned bistro with a famous round zink bar and the whole seating is placed around it along the walls and some tables scattered in the left-over space. Old very comfy chairs, an efficient, friendly and multilingual service, very good food for very reasonable money, a large and utterly beautiful carved window - old chandeliers and hanging 'drop' lamps, cheerful, lovely, a great experience!
Love the Flora too but like places like the PC better....
Shall have something to look forward, reading all the posts I missed!!!!
    Bonne nuit, ma chérie

I loved the film clip - very glamour and sophisticated - very CD... :)

    2. Kiki, Pure Cafe sounds like a great find. I'll have to check it out. I love the idea of the zinc bar and comfy old chairs. Interesting! I just googled it and saw this: It has appeared as Central Casting’s ‘typical French café’ in a number of films, including the 2004 British film Before Sunset.

      Thanks for the tip!

  6. The images of Paris were captivating, but the song, not really to my liking. Well, McLaren was the manager of the Sex Pistols and NY Dolls after all and not much of a singer. Could've done without the gratuitous "sultriness," however, there was Catherine Deneuve so beautiful in 1994! She elevated the clip!

    1. She certainly did! Catherine Deneuve is one classy lady.

As I didn't know anything about McLaren, I googled him and was sad to see that he died from peritoneal mesothelioma in 2009 - it seems as if I've only heard about that form of cancer on tv commercials for class action lawsuits in the United States. I agree, he's not much of a singer.

  8. Ah Flore, always go there when we visit Paris. Bought plates & coffee cups from Flore for romantic breakfasts in Blonay. Kees & I met in Paris - Flore was our first coffee date. Will pass on the link to your blog to a Nestlé family who are discovering Paris (Bert & Renilde Demeyere). They also lived in CH & the Philippines & now in the 16ième arrondissement.

    Cheers, Mariette Langerak

  9. Oh! The memories you must have of sitting at the Flore on your first coffee date! I can easily understand why you have their plates and coffee cups to use at home. Plus, Blonay is a good place for a romantic breakfast.

Thanks for passing the link for my blog to the Demeyeres. I would be happy to try to answer any questions that they may have about life in Paris. I'll have to ask Stephane if he knows them.
