Before and after...feather pompoms on Louboutin shoes

Before -- May 17, 2011

When I saw these pink and black feather pompoms while visiting Legeron Flower and Feather Boutique last year, I was charmed by the idea that they were destined to decorate shoes designed by Christian Louboutin. After deciding that it wouldn't be ethical to post photos of the prototypes on the internet before the shoes were even in the stores, I promptly put them out of my mind. At least, I thought that I had forgotten about them until this morning when I spied these black shoes with the distinctive red sole. Look familiar?

After - April 27, 2012

Worried that the Russian woman who was trying on the shoes in Louboutin's flagship store would think that I have a foot fetish, I was relieved when she allowed me to take a couple of pictures without hitting me with her purse or calling the salesmen for help.

Even for a non-fashionista like myself, it was a real thrill to see the pompoms, both before and after.

  1. Stunning shoes! They certainly have the "wow factor." I bet the movement of the feathers is really attention-grabbing when the wearer is walking around.

Glad you had the nerve to ask the woman for a photo. I was taking photos of the Christian Louboutin window display on 5th Ave and my husband was embarrassed and made me stop. Wish I had ignored him.

So cool you got a sneak peak of the pompoms last year. And it was very conscientious of you to not release the photos to potential competitors.

    1. WOW is right - they were really stunning! It was great because the Russian woman got into the spirt of the impromptu photo shoot and put her feet in different positions so that I could get pictures of the shoe from a variety of angles.

In between snapping photos, I had an interesting conversation with one of the saleswomen who told me that they sell completely different shoes in North America, Asia and Europe. She said that the 3 stores in Paris don't even sell the same shoes. Did you post your photos online? I would love to see what's available in NYC.

    2. Really? Well, now I can see why die-hard fashionistas are so excited to shop at their favorite stores in other countries.

No, I didn't post them, but maybe I can dig them up. They were stilettos covered in spiky gold studs, like the studs on those sneakers you photoed. They were really bad ass!

I read an article today that Louboutin, at Disney's request, is designing a modern version of Cinderella's glass slipper this summer. Gonna keep my eyes open for it. Just to look, not to purchase!

    3. Please let me know if you see Cinderella's glass slipper in NYC. I'll keep an eye out for it in Paris!

Did you see that CL also collaborated with Crazy Horse, the Parisian cabaret?

  2. I believe that is a called a journalistic coup--well done! But full disclosure also demands that you tell us why (oh why) you were in the Louboutin shop in the first place. C'mon, do tell.

    Happy Saturday.

    1. Thanks and happy Saturday to you, Joseph! Full disclosure - I met a friend at Louboutin's and snapped photos of other women trying on all of the lovely shoes. With hindsight, I should have tried on some myself just for the experience -- not that I would ever buy any because I grow faint at the thought of spending that much money on a pair of shoes. I'm really not a fashionista. Plus, I can't imagine tottering down a cobblestone street in Paris in such high heels! ;)

  3. Joseph...she was there to meet me!! Unfortunately, the shoes that I liked were either out of stock in my size or way out of my budget. We were told that not all styles are available in all shops and that I am unlikely to find my fav Parisian styles in FL.
Oh well, it just means that next time I am in Paris I will have to meet MK there again!

    1. We cross-posted, Nancy -- and here I was trying to protect your identity by referring to you discretely as "a friend"! When did you say that you're returning to Paris? In 3 weeks? The next time that you're here, we'll definitely have to meet at Louboutin's again so that I can try on some of the shoes. I don't know what I was thinking yesterday!

I loved the first pair that you tried on - it's a shame that they didn't have your size.

Safe travels during your journey home tomorrow!

  4. Lovely fun shoes but no good for me, I'm afraid, the feather pompoms would get too soggy round the farm!

    1. And the animals would probably think that the pompoms were something interesting to eat!

    1. Yeah, I thought that it was really cool, too. Now that I finally get to talk about it!
