Does a red beret have magical powers?

You should! It works...

  1. He could pass for Le Grand Schtroumpf except for the shape of his hat!

    1. You're right - there's definitely a strong resemblance! Admittedly, I had to google Le Grand Schtroumpf because it has been a while since I've seen him.

I'm not sure if I ever told you - but I got to the Babar exhibition. I still have to write a post about it.

    1. Merci, Mlle Ella! Isn't it great to see someone who is loving life? That's the feeling that I get reading your blog...now that MF is history.

      Have a great weekend!

    1. Haven't you heard, a red beret has magical powers - but you don't need one because your French is coming along at a rapid rate. Bravo!

  4. Is this the kind of hat that I should get for Paul? To make sure that we don't lose him in the crowds? Hmmm... I wouldn't mind the beard, but definitely not the belly! See you soon... :-)

    1. Yes, this is exactly the kind of hat that you should get for Paul. Not only will we be able to spot him in the crowds in Paris, but he'll really stand out in your Swiss village! Stephane and I are really looking forward to your visit - old (not in age!) friends, laughter and wine. What could be better?

  5. I think it's also about combating invisibility as one gets older. Bright socks or pocket squares have a similar effect for men. For women, I believe big, bright hats or flashes of colour in the hair have a similar effect. Nevertheless, a red beret for me!

    1. I think that you may have hit the nail on the head. Any chance that you're a psychiatrist? Unfortunately, it's true that we become invisible as we age. I never understood what my mother was talking about until I hit my mid 40s. Good for you for wearing bright socks or pocket squares!

To your list, may I add glasses with funky frames/bright colors for men and women?

  6. I feel there's a part of the story that I'm missing. I never wore a beret in France, although I did in Philadelphia, but I pulled the front forward to an almost peak, and it didn't really look like a beret--that's called style.

    1. You're such a style setter, Joseph! What color was your beret?

As for the missing part of the story, Stephane felt the same as you. I was going to write something to explain my thoughts about wearing a red beret, stepping out of one's comfort zone, etc., etc., but decided to let people interpret the comic and photo however they wanted. Plus, Stephane surprised me by arriving home early from le Havre so I didn't have the chance to write anything because he was in a funk over Federer's loss in the semi-finals and needed some cheering up.
