Galeries Lafayette wants models (like you!) for the World's Biggest Fashion Show.

While having dinner last night, my son seemed somewhat surprised to learn that I consider myself to be more of an introvert than an extrovert. Yes, I know that I have a tendency to engage in discussions with random strangers and probably appear to be more outgoing than I really am. But truth be told, I'm an introvert. Or perhaps just not someone who feels comfortable in front of a lot of people, which shouldn't come as a surprise since I spend much of the time in front of my computer.

So, what does all of this navel gazing have to do with the subject of the World's Biggest Fashion Show? Well, being the introvert that I am, I realize that I would have to step way out of my comfort zone - think of a step as large as the distance between France and Australia - to submit my online application to be a model in the show. Even though I would love to strut down the red runway with more than 700 other people because it would be such a unique Parisian experience, I just don't have the guts.  I'm a coward.

But the next best thing to actually being in the show would be to write about someone who is brave enough to put on their most fashionable outfit for the World's Biggest Fashion Show on September 15. Here's the deal - you submit an online application before September 8 and if you're selected, you wear your own clothes to the fashion show, where professional hair stylists and make-up artists will help you look even more glamorous.  A video of last year's show featured a woman who was 65 years old, so age is not an excuse.  The only restriction is that participants must be above 16 years of age. Doesn't this sound like fun? Well, it gets even better because experts will teach you how to walk down the runway in heels, plus you'll receive a free lunch and a gift bag from the partners of Galeries Lafayette. And last but not least, I would like to write a blog post about your experience.  Now that has to be worth something. Just let me know if you're interested. If not, I may have to take one of the biggest steps of my life and apply. Gulp!

Breaking news: Express just broke Galeries Lafayette's record with a fashion show at Times Square in New York City in July that had 1,243 people. We need to help Galeries Lafayette regain their title!

More breaking news: Galeries Lafayette is sponsoring a competition and will fly one lucky person from New York, London, and Milan to Paris to participate in the World's Biggest Fashion Show in Paris. Click here to read the rules.

  1. Speaking of introverts and extroverts: I've always considered you to be much more outgoing than myself. So, prove that you are really brave and apply for this once-in-a-lifetime experience! You could then afterwards teach ME how to walk in high-heels... I'll vote for you when I see your application.

  2. But that's the point of my post -- I'm not brave! I'm a coward. Besides, I already have the perfect title picked out for a post about you. "Swiss woman wows audience and becomes a supermodel in Paris!" And then, of course, you would go on to pursue your singing career and become even more famous.

And high heels - do I even own anything that would qualify as "high"?

  3. this is too funny and fun.

oh to be in Paris. I'd wear Comme des Garcons from head to toe.

  4. Joseph, How wonderful that you think that it would be fun! And you even know what you would wear. Not an extrovert by any chance, are you?

I took a few glances in my closet today (just in case) and haven't been inspired...

  5. Mary Kay, actually I'm something of an introvert I think, at least in my profession. And I no longer need the stage in my private life either. But there was a time, and every now and then it re-surfaces.

I'm sure you have an evening dress in the closet that would be worthy of a trip on the red carpet. And think of the fun you could have accessorizing it.

  6. Mary Kay, I think you know what you need to do... you'd be a great model! They need to see more stylish Americans like yourself, anyway.

  7. Allie, thanks for the vote of confidence. I may need it if I can't find someone else to strut down the runway. Hey, what are you doing on September 15? Paris is just as beautiful then as it was in April!
