I still have a couple of more posts about my trip to Normandy, but first I have some exciting news to share with you! Drum roll and raise your champagne glasses, please. Thanks to Adam at Invisible Paris, I have the answer to a question that has been bothering me ever since I returned from the States in July.
After seeing Adam's offer to "Challenge me! Seen something in Paris that has caught your eye but remains a mystery, or ever wondered about obscure people or events in the city's past?", I decided to ask him about an architectural feature that I have noticed at the base of several Parisian buildings, including the Louvre, that resembles the coral that my daughter Sara is using for her doctoral research.
Since I follow Adam on Twitter, I knew that something big was about to happen on Wednesday when he "tweeted" that he was going to miss his lunch break because he was hoping to take some photos of vermiculation. Hmmm, even though I wasn't familiar with that word, it sounded as if Adam was on the trail of something interesting. And sure enough, just before I went to bed there was another tweet saying that he hadn't wasted his lunch break because his quest to find vermiculation (there's that word again!) was successful.

That's the genius of Adam's offer - next time you can "have your cake and eat it too" because you can snap a photo of whatever it is that has you intrigued on your way to the pastry shop and send it to Adam. You'll get your answer and your fav pastry. Mine at the moment seem to be choc eclairs. Yum! :-)

ReplyDeleteJust a small comment: the cores are actually Siderastrea siderea (not D. labyrinthiformis, like the cross section) from the USVI (not that anyone but me would know... but still, if they are going to be famous, I'm sure they'd prefer it to be for their own species name) ;)
Sara, I'm ready to sign on as your personal coral photographer whenever you want, especially if I get to travel with you when you collect some more samples!
