Sunday's Picture and a Song: J'ai Deux Amours ...

In Paris, I've grown to know one Josephine Baker - the American musical hall star renowned for her sensual dance performances at the Revue Nègre at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and the Folies Bergère.

At Milandes, her "Sleeping Beauty Castle" in the Dordogne Valley, I learned a lot of fascinating information about the life of this incredible woman that I'll share in tomorrow's post. In the meantime, here's one of Josephine Baker's most famous songs, J'ai Deux Amours ...

  1. Viewing your post and hearing Jo sing at this hour (5am) due to the Daylight Savings Time change...Thanks for offering a bright start to my pitch dark Sunday morning.

    1. The question is - what were you doing up at 5:00 am on a Sunday morning? The mornings are dark in Paris, too. The good news is that the "golden hour" comes a bit later in the day. I keep promising myself that I'm going to go for an early morning photo shoot one of these days. Maybe I'll wait until you get here to give me some encouragement!

  2. A great song for a Sunday morning, especially with a little champagne.

And I love her castle, it reminds me of some of the cottages in Newport, RI. I love how compact it is.

    2. Listening to Josephine Baker while sipping champagne sounds like the perfect way to ease into a Sunday morning. Like Mlle Ella, I always knew that you were "fancy and fab", JtB. Never doubted it for a moment.

    1. perhaps she wil post a video of the Banana Dance?

    2. @Nancy, Nope, not the Banana Dance, although I did see the original Banana skirt worn by Josephine. Unfortunately, the museum has a strict "no photos" policy.

@Mlle Ella, Admittedly, I didn't know much about Josephine's life before I went to her castle so everything was new to me. She's definitely a fascinating woman. Oh! You would LOVE her bathroom. Her favorite perfume was "Arpege" so the entire bathroom is designed in the style of a perfume bottle. It's decorated with Murano molten glass tiles as well as gold and black mosaic. The ceiling is painted with gold leaf!
