Sunday's pictures and a Song: "A Man and a Woman" at the beach in Deauville

Thanks to Kristen's recent post, I learned about the award winning movie that was filmed in Deauville, Un homme et une femme (A Man and a Woman). This is the original theme song from the movie.

The paint's still fresh! Liam Neeson was in Deauville for the dedication of his beach cabin the day before we arrived.

  1. Mary Kay I've been loving all your Deauville updates on Facebook. We have this on our list of things to do and cant wait to explore. And the story continues as the theme song is what Sir L and I walked out to when we were introduce at our reception!! Thanks for the shout out and glad you liked the movie and lovely Deauville!

    1. Deauville and Trouville are wonderful destinations and have such a different vibe from Paris! We haven't had time to watch the movie yet but I hope that we'll be able to see it soon. It will be fun "revisiting" the places where we were last weekend.

  2. that's a happy song. and one happy dog too.

I'm curious about the cabins--Kern and Lerner, I'm sure they have passed away, so do the cabins stay in the family? Where are the French members? Which beach club is this?

    1. While I haven't read anything official about the cabins, it seems that they're Deauville's equivalent of the stars on Hollywood Blvd. The cabins are on the boardwalk of Deauville's public beach. It's open access so you'll be able to visit while you're there. All of the cabins seem to be named after directors, actors, actresses, etc. involved with American cinema. Most of the cabins already have names so I'm fairly sure that they're recycled.

    1. Thanks, Denise! We had such a lovely weekend that it was hard to return to Paris. Hard to believe, huh?

I look forward to reading your post about the vendange in Montmartre. It will be like having my cake (Deauville) and eating it too (your post!).

  5. You are making me feel old. "A Man & a Woman" was one of the landmark French films of the 60's. A lot of people my age know every scene by heart. It's the film that made Francophiles out of a whole generation. You just heard of it? You really are quite young ! ;-)

    1. For some reason, "A Man and a Woman" was completely off Stephane's and my radar. I'm not sure how he missed it but I would have had a better chance of seeing it if it had starred John Wayne. Westerns, gangster movies, Disney movies and musicals...those are the kind of films that we watched while I was growing up in the Midwest in the 60s. I can't wait to see what I've been missing all these years!

  6. Well, given your response to Bigfish, be sure to check out "Umbrellas of Cherbourg."

We're not, generally, big musical fans, but this movie, and especially the Michel Legrand soundtrack, are favorites.

    1. Thanks for the recommendation, Peter! I'll have to see if I can find another way to watch it online because it's not one of the films available on itunes.
