Sunday's picture and a song - Lana Del Rey in Paris

Don't worry. There hasn't been some sort of weird time warp that caused you to miss out on a full day of your weekend! I'm posting "Sunday's Picture and a Song" on Saturday because my brain is too tired to write a real post.

If you don't recognize the young woman in the photos, don't feel bad. I certainly didn't when I saw a crowd gathered around her in front of the Westin Hotel in Paris on Thursday afternoon. Seeing her name on the cover of a CD that she was autographing for a fan didn't enlighten me as to her identity either. It was only after Ella Coquine commented on my last post that I would probably like Lana Del Rey's music that I decided to listen to some of her songs. And, of course, I know her! Sara and I sang along with "Video Games" while I was visiting our children in Boston at this time last year. Warning: This haunting song is one of those that gets stuck in your head. I've already listened to it about five (or eight or more!) times today.

For someone who grew up in small towns in the mid-western section of the United States far from any well-known people, I always get a thrill when I stumble across someone famous in Paris. The moral of the story is to keep your camera strapped around your neck even if it means that you look like a tourist, take photos first and ask questions later. With any luck, you'll end up with pictures of someone whose work you admire.

Lana Del Rey graciously signed autographs and posed with fans in front of the Westin Hotel in Paris.

  1. Mary Kay, her picture is also plastered all over Paris right now in the new ads for H&M. I'm sure there's one in your Metro stop.

    1. What can I say, I'm oblivious to advertising! I checked yesterday and her ad isn't in my metro station but I'll snap a photo of the first one I see and put it on facebook. It has become somewhat of a quest! Are her H&M ads in Chicago, too? I'll race you to see who finds one first. I know how competitive you are!

  2. Ahh! I remember I posted this song when I went back to the states in November and you commented!!! I can't believe she was in Paris... Sir L LOVES her and I don't think I can tell him that we missed her. I wonder if she was performing too? Or just there for fashion week? Hmmm....

    1. KBH - Awww, I remember when you posted it too! I actually discovered her from your blog! What was that, like a year ago? Oh how time flies....

MK - These photos of her are so pretty. She actually looks like a normal person with her modest make-up and outfit. I love it. Look at the difference of your photos and her H&M ads...she kind of looks like a bitch in them! Saying that, something must be working with the ads because I so want that pink mohair sweater she's modeling in one them...

    2. @Kristen Thanks for reminding me about your post! I was trying to remember where I first heard "Video Games". I thought that I introduced the song to Sara (my daughter) which seemed kind of odd because I'm never that up to date with music. And now I know that it was thanks to you that I'm such a hipster! ;) Thanks to google, I learned that Lana Del Rey was in Paris to do a photo shoot for Jaguar at the Rodin Museum. She's their new face. I didn't see anything about her performing here.

@mlle ella After hearing about the H&M ad from Joseph, I've been looking everywhere for it without success. If you see one, can you please snap a photo? I particularly want to see the pink mohair sweater! On Twitter, someone said that she has "cold, dead eyes" in the ad. Strange because I thought that her eyes were very warm and kind in real life.

    1. Isn't it wonderful to have daughters (and sons!) who introduce us to new things! It's one of the biggest perks of being a parent.

  5. One thing I like about out of towns is the place we're going to stay for our vacay. Of course, you wanted to be relaxed after a long day of traveling and strolling and I think garden district hotels new Orleans cause they offer spa in my own room and their amenities are just awesome.
