Dream Big!

"My Little New Life Box" arrived on Saturday with the message:

Life is not about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.

It was a timely reminder because I'm going to step way out of my comfort zone this week when I do something that I've been wanting to do ever since I wrote my first blog post on April 1, 2011. At the time, I was joking ... more or less. But now that the opportunity has presented itself, I'm half excited and half scared. Or maybe I'm ninety-nine percent petrified and one percent enthusiastic. I don't know. All that I know is that I'm going to do something that's completely out of character for me. I'm going to be an extra in Three Days to Kill, a movie starring Kevin Costner that's currently being filmed in Paris. Whew! I said it. There's no turning back now.

Among the hair bow, hand cream, nail polish, agenda and colored pencils in "My Little Box", I spied a plain envelope with the words, "The secret to happiness is here". Quickly opening the flap, I pulled out a charm instructing me to "Dream big". I will. After all, dreams occasionally come true.

If there's something that you've been wanting to do, I hope that you'll also take the plunge when the moment feels right.

Remember:

    1. Thanks, Bill! I didn't break a leg but one of the stuntmen broke his foot (or sprained it) while we were filming.

  7. Thanks for sharing your dream with your readers. I hope you will write the whole story for your blog sometime: how you got the job and how the filming went. I'm so happy for you! And thanks for the inspiration to not stop dreaming--and then take the next step and actually do something about it!

    1. Keep on dreaming, Karene! Sometimes we get so wrapped up in having dreams for other people (our children, husband, etc) that we forget that we need to have our own dreams -- just for us.

I'll write a post about my experience as an extra just as soon as I figure out where to start.

  9. Relax! I have heard, that Mr. Costner, I know someone who met him when he and his band has been in Vienna two (?) years ago, is very charming. Bear up and start your new career!

    1. Sanne, I didn't realize that Mr. Costner played in a band until I read your comment. When I looked for some more info, I discovered that his band was scheduled to perform in Paris in February. Unfortunately, the concert was cancelled for some reason.

  11. Fabulous , yes you go for it . I absolutely adore your little cards in "your box"...the lovely little envelope with the cute words ..:-)

I would love to come back to Paris, but with no work it is impossible to find the funds (my huubby works though) I would love to come to Paris , for a few months .. see my friends, and then go south for a bit, travel by train ..

Anyway enough about me , good luck and Enjoy.:-)

    1. I hope that your dreams of traveling to Paris and the south come true, Anne! One of the ironies of life is that we often don't have the time to travel when we're working or the money to travel when we're not. Wouldn't it be great to have both the time and the money at the same time?

    2. They don't ship "My Little Box" to the USA but I'll be sure to let you know if they do.

I was an extra in the scene where there's a big party at a penthouse overlooking the Eiffel Tower.

  13. A friend on FB posted a quote several days ago that's been great inspiring to me of late. It's from the Matt Damon move, We Bought a Zoo. The quote is about having 20 seconds of courage, impossible courage and how the world changes after that. I love the scene in the movie.

I'm happy for you having this opportunity. The film was written by Luc Besson and directed by the Charlie's Angels guy McG, so maybe it will be very high-fashion and you'll be in a pair of high heels at the Crillion, sipping champagne with your lover when KC walks through looking for an agent who has gone missing. The camera will pan slowly through the room as you tip your glass...

    1. Sipping champagne at the Crillon would have been amazing - although the champagne would have probably been apple juice or colored water! One of the tricks of the trade that I learned is that all of the drinks and food aren't intended to be consumed. They're only for show. The sushi that they used in the scene was 3 days old by the time that we finished shooting! I did wear high heels (excrutiating ones) but I didn't have a lover, only a husband.

I haven't seen We Bought a Zoo yet but when I do I'll be on the alert for the quote that has been inspiring you.

I wish I had been bolder so many times in my life...lost opportunities are such a waste!

Have tons of fun with this experience and let us know where to look for you when the movie is out.
Kevin Costner was one of my crushes and I wouldn't mind seeing him in person! Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

"Life is not about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."
Love this line! I should be changing the name of my blog, I think...

  17. Ha. Good for you, MK. We'll look for you at Regal Cinema's in Hudson. Costner was in "Tin Cup" which was shot at the Tubac Country Club in Tubac, AZ. Our club. Over Christmas, we had dinner at a place called The Cow Palace in Amada (middle of nowhere) Southern Arizona and sat next to Diane Keaton and her kids and grandkids! Apparently she lives within a mile of our place. Finally, I'm driving to Peoria, Illinois to watch the filming of a movie called "We Be Kings" -- written and directed by a film-maker named Toby Hubner who has lived in Paris for the past 20 years. He lives in le Marais and Tucson. The world is getting smaller and smaller. C'est la vie.

    1. I would have loved to see Diane Keaton! Do you remember when we peered through the window of Le Grand Colbert, the restaurant where they filmed Something's Gotta Give, when you were in Paris?

Thanks for telling me about We Be Kings. I just googled it and got caught up watching the video about it on Kickstarter.
